Those looking for a rugged and reliable crossover SUV should definitely put the 2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure on their list. While the standard RAV4 is already a pretty decent SUV, it still lacks that something in the aesthetic department. The Japanese automaker has realized that on time and decided to upgrade the RAV4’s looks.
Thanks to its decision, we now have a fairly rugged and exciting variant of the popular SUV. The Adventure variant brings a number of cosmetic upgrades, as well a new suspension system and other mechanical upgrades. According to Toyota, this edition is meant for active-lifestyle buyers who mainly seek off-road excitement.
2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure – Exterior Look and Updates
Overall, the 2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure is basically a standard RAV4, albeit with a good number of smaller, cosmetic updates. Right from the start, we can see that the Adventure looks far more rugged than the basic variant. Some of the most notable additions include new flared wheel arches that now feature all-black surrounds. This addition alone gives the Adventure a much more menacing and imposing stance. In the front, we can see a slightly redesigned fascia, along with black fog light surrounds and black headlight bezels.
On the sides, the view is dominated by new, 18-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels, which are, of course, colored black. As opposed to the basic RAV4, the Adventure has an increased ground clearance, lower body panels, and underbody guards. All of these give the Adventure a much more “adventurous” look, which will surely satisfy off-road aficionados.
Interior Features and Equipment
Inside, the changes that the 2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure brings are much more subtle and come in much smaller numbers. For starters, we can see unique trim panels, a bit more chrome, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. Elsewhere, the Adventure features a 100-watt/120-volt AC power outlet, an all weather cargo/floor mats, and special door sill protectors. Additionally, this model also gets the brand-new Cold Weather Package as well.
This package includes a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable cloth seats, which have the heating/cooling function, and a set of wiper de-icers. As far as the available passenger and cargo space are concerned, the Adventure still offers a decent amount of legroom and shoulder room, along with an abundance of cargo space. Tech-wise, it features the same Entune Infotainment system, Bluetooth, dual-zone climate control, USB, and so on.
Engine Options, Specs and Performance
In the engine department, the 2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure brings no changes. Just like the standard variant, this variant also features 2 engines, one gasoline, the other a hybrid. The gasoline one is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, which produces 176 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque while providing a fuel efficiency rating of 22/28 mpg.
The hybrid variant combines the same gasoline engine with two small electric motors. Combined, the hybrid produces 194 horsepower and 206 lb-ft of torque. Its EPA rating is 34/30 mpg. While the gasoline engine comes paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the hybrid comes with a CVT transmission.
Release Date and Price of the 2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure
The latest 2018 Toyota RAV4 Adventure variant is slated for a late 2017 release. While we still don’t know the exact price, it will surely be above the current RAV4’s price, which is around $27.000.
